‘Who Stole My Cheese?’

John Turchon


Guest speaker John Turchon presents “Who Stole My Cheese?” during this year’s UT Tyler staff development workshop Feb. 19-20 at Friendly Baptist Church. The University Staff Advisory Council and President Rodney Mabry sponsored the workshop. Other speakers presented breakout sessions on a variety of informative subjects.

American College of Sports Medicine to Meet on Campus

The Texas Regional Chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine will hold its 25th Annual Meeting at The University of Texas at Tyler, Dr. James Schwane, UT Tyler professor of health and kinesiology and TACSM regional chapter president, announced.

“Exercise Science and Sports Medicine – Research, Teaching and Application” will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27 – 28, in the Herrington Patriot Center. More>>>

Art Students Create ‘Empty Bowls’ in Service Project

For the fifth consecutive year, art students in Gary Hatcher’s advanced ceramics class participated in the North Texas Food Bank Empty Bowls luncheon to benefit the fight to end hunger.

Cowan Center Presents Classic ‘Streetcar Named Desire’

streetcar coupleThe Montana Repertory Theatre’s production of “A Streetcar Named Desire’’ will take the Cowan Center stage at 7:30 p.m. March 6, sponsored by Jack and Debra King.

Tickets are $41, $31 and $21 and can be purchased at the Cowan Center box office. Box office hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. More>>>

Education Course Sends Students to Childcare Centers

UT Tyler student with daycare participantUT Tyler early childhood education students interact with children at two local childcare centers as part of a Play and Creativity in the Classroom course taught by Dr. Lisa Starnes, assistant professor of education.

The course teaches theories of play, and students demonstrate their skills by applying the knowledge at North Tyler Day Nursery and Faithful Child Care. More>>>

Art History Lectures to Feature Dr. Scott Montgomery

The art program will present two lectures featuring Dr. Scott Montgomery, assistant professor of art history at the University of Denver, on Friday, Feb. 27.

Open to the public, the lectures will be held in Room 1009 of the R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center (Braithwaite Recital Hall entrance). More>>>

Apartments – Construction has begun to create 200 beds in four buildings. Details>>>

Baseball/Softballs Fields – The first phase is expected to go out to bid in April.

Dormitory – An architect has been selected to design the building. Details>>>

Engineering, Science and Technology Building – Project is out to bid. Proposals are to be opened at 2 p.m. March 3.

Performance Soccer Field – Construction has begun. Completion expected in May.

Longview University Center monument signs – Project underway. Anticipated completion date is March 30.

Other Projects: Request for qualifications went out for the design of two more parking lots and a small renovation project in PHE. Evaluations are being completed for selection of the architect. Details>>>
