Dr.
Roger Conaway, professor of speech communication,
was selected to chair the Association for Business
Communication’s annual convention in October 2005. ABC will
celebrate its 70th anniversary as a professional society during
the convention to be held in New Orleans.
Dr. Neil
B. Ford, professor of biology, has been elected to the
Executive Council of the Herpetologist's League. Dr. Ford will
serve a three-year term. The international organization is dedicated
to furthering knowledge of the biology of amphibians and reptiles,
and publishes the journal "Herpetologica."
Dr. Brenda
Gilliam, chair of the Department of Early Childhood,
Reading and Special Education, presented a paper, "Collaborating
with Public/Charter Schools: Successful Partnerships," at
the Teacher Education Division Annual Conference Nov. 17 in Biloxi,
Miss. TED is a division of the international Council for Exceptional
Children.
Dr. Timothy
B. Jones, assistant professor of educational leadership,
published "The Critical Thinking Disposition of Alternative
Certification Students" in the fall 2003 edition of Teacher
Education and Practice, Vol. 16, No. 3.
Dr. Pam
Martin, associate professor and assistant dean for undergraduate
programs in nursing, is a member of a Texas International Education
Consortium team assigned to prepare an analysis for the master
plan of the Yanbu Girls College in Saudi Arabia.
The team met
recently in Austin to discuss construction of a curriculum outline
and the corresponding space analysis requirements for the new
college.
A research
article by Dr. Smita Mehta, associate professor
of special education, and Dr. R.W. Albin, associate professor,
University of Oregon, was recently published in “The Behavior
Analyst Today,’’ Volume 4, Issue 3, pages 5-21. The
article was titled “From Hypotheses to Interventions: Applied
Challenges of Intervening with Escalating Sequences of Problem
Behavior.’’
Dr. Kathy
Morrison, assistant professor of education, and Carol
Marshall co-authored an article, "Universities and Public
Schools: Are We Disconnected?" The article was published
in the December issue of Phi Delta Kappan, 85(4).
