“The Dance Theatre of Harlem is truly a world class dance company and one of my favorites. This is not a company we can bring to East Texas very often because of their caliber. They should not be missed. They’re just the best,” said Thomae-Morphew.

Tickets are $31, $41 and $51 and can be purchased at the Cowan Center box office. Box office hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Student tickets may be limited to 200 tickets per performance or until tickets have sold out. All tickets are based on a first-come-first-served basis. It is recommended that students obtain tickets when they first go on sale.

Faculty and staff may receive up to two discounts to each event.

Founded in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook, Dance Theatre of Harlem was considered one of ballet’s most exciting undertakings. Shortly after the assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Mitchell was inspired to start a school that would offer children, especially those in Harlem, the community in which he was born, the opportunity to learn about dance and the allied arts.

Now in its fourth decade, Dance Theatre of Harlem has grown into a multi-cultural dance institution with an extraordinary legacy of providing opportunities for creative expression and artistic excellence that continues to set standards in the performing arts.
