Clinic to Open on Campus
The new
University of Texas Health Clinic, a partnership between
The University of Texas Health Center at Tyler and The
University of Texas at Tyler, is scheduled to open on the
UT Tyler campus in late August.
“We
are very excited about this opportunity to collaborate
with UT Tyler in serving the health care needs of the students
and faculty as well as the entire Tyler community,” UTHCT

Distinguished
Lecture Season Tickets Available
“Face
the Nation’’ anchor and longtime Washington
correspondent Bob Schieffer will open the 22 nd season
of the Distinguished Lecture Series at the Cowan Center.
Schieffer
will be featured in a special event on Aug. 20, 2004. Pioneering
Republican visionary J.C. Watts will be presented in The
Drs. Lawrence L. Anderson and Svetislava J. Vukelja Lecture
on Oct. 21, 2004. The series will conclude March 1, 2005,
with “20/20’’ co-anchor/correspondent

Lone Star Wave

Members
of a delegation from Qujing Teachers University express
their enthusiasm for the Lone Star State during a recent
visit to UT Tyler’s Herrington Patriot Center. Accompanied
by Professor Fafu Song, six students flew to Tyler from

Chancey
is UT Tyler’s New Director of Academic Advising
Janna
Chancey has been hired to serve as UT Tyler's first director
of academic advising.
Chancey,
who served as director of enrollment management at Tyler
Junior College prior to joining UT Tyler in June, will
be responsible for implementing programs to improve the
success of freshmen and other new students through an academic

UT
Tyler Freshmen ‘Dive In’ to Orientation
About
175 freshmen and 200 parents attended the first of three
freshman orientation sessions at UT Tyler on July 1. Under
the theme “Dive In … to Orientation 2004,’’ orientation
will be held again on July 22 and Aug. 5.
Orientation
introduces students to both the educational and social
environment on campus. Freshmen and their parents have
an opportunity to attend informative sessions, meet new
friends, visit with students and professors and become
familiar with the campus.More>>>

Advanced
Learning for Teachers
Teachers participate
in the Advanced Placement Summer Institute at UT Tyler during the week of June
21. About 214 from Texas and Arkansas attended the fourth annual institute,
a College Board program that prepares educators to teach advanced placement
courses in middle and high schools. More>>>

Cowan
Center Receives Texas Commission on the Arts Grant
The
University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing
Arts Center is the recipient of a $5,000 grant from the
Texas Commission on the Arts for the development of a regional
arts initiative, Susan Thomae-Morphew, UT Tyler Cowan Center
director, announced.
The
regional arts group representing Tyler, Kilgore and Longview
met June 30 at UT Tyler with Bruce Thibodeau of Arts Consulting
Group, the organization hired to guide the arts initiative.
