Miller Named Director of UT Tyler LUC

John MillerDr. John E. Miller has been appointed director of the UT Tyler Longview University Center.

Dr. Miller, who was named UT Tyler LUC interim director in October 2003, succeeds Dr. Jolene Lampton, who resigned to accept a position at Park University in Austin.

Cowan Center Brings ‘Fame’ to Campus April 12

Fame logoThe 2003-04 Broadway Series will bring “Fame – The Musical’’ to the Cowan Center on April 12.

Sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. A.W. “Dub” Riter Jr., the performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Vaughn Auditorium.

Tickets are $46 and $36, and can be purchased at the UT Tyler Cowan Center box office. Box office hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. More>>>

Programming Contest Held at UT Tyler

Students participating in programming contestThe UT Tyler Department of Computer Science served as host to the annual Texas Computer Education Association Area 7 High School Programming Contest on Feb. 28.

Eleven teams from schools in the region competed for trophies and medals as well as for qualifying invitations to TCEA’s state contest to be held in May. Teams attempted to solve 18 problems in three difficulty categories within a two-hour time limit. More>>

4½ -Day Summer Work Schedule Begins May 10

UT Tyler has announced a four and one-half day work schedule for the summer of 2004.

The summer schedule will begin on Monday, May 10, and continue through Friday, Aug. 13. Business hours for administrative offices will be 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday, and 7:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. Friday.

Provost/VP for Academic Affairs Finalists Visit Campus

Finalists for the position of UT Tyler provost and vice president for academic affairs began visiting the campus March 14 to meet with university administrators, faculty and staff. The visits will continue through March 26.

The new provost/VPAA is expected to be announced following the visits, said Dr. Mil Clark, associate vice president for academic affairs. More>>>

University to Present ‘Hank the Cowdog’ at Lee High School

John EricksonThe UT Tyler Literacy Center will present “Hank the Cowdog in Concert,’’ a 60-minute program of innocent fun and wholesome family entertainment, on Saturday, April 3, at Robert E. Lee High School’s Jan E. Jones Fine Arts Center.

The concert for elementary school children and their families will begin at 10:45 a.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and children. Reservations must be made by March 31, by contacting the UT Tyler Literacy Center at 903-565-5669. More>>>

Apartments – Construction has begun to create 200 beds in four buildings. Details>>>

Baseball/Softballs Fields – The first phase is expected to go out to bid in April.

Dormitory – An architect has been selected to design the building. Details>>>

Engineering, Science and Technology Building – Project went out to bid. Proposals were to be opened at 2 p.m. March 3.

Performance Soccer Field – Construction has begun. Completion expected in May.

Longview University Center monument signs – Project underway. Anticipated completion date is March 30.

Other Projects: Request for qualifications went out for the design of two more parking lots and a small renovation project in PHE. Evaluations are being completed for selection of the architect. Details>>>
