An outstanding quarterback, Watts led the University of Oklahoma to two Orange Bowl victories and twice was named the Orange Bowl’s Most Valuable Player. He was elected to the House of Representatives from his native Oklahoma in 1994 and in 1998 was elected by fellow congressmen to serve as chairman of the House Republican Conference, the fourth highest position in the House. Watts also was honorary co-chairman of the 2000 Republican National Convention.
Since leaving the House of Representatives two years ago, the 47-year-old has established J.C. Watts Companies. The government relations firm allows Watts to leverage his experience as both a lawmaker and networker.
Prior to running for office, Watts became an ordained minister and served as a youth pastor and associate pastor in Del City, Okla. He is a member of several corporate boards and is co-chair of the Coalition for AIDS Relief in Africa.
