Cowan Center Offers Students Complimentary and Rush Tickets

Cats Logo and Harvey Korman with Tim ConwayThere are 200 complimentary tickets per event available, or until sold out, to UT Tyler students by showing their current student identification at the Cowan Center Box Office , Susan Thomae-Morphew, director, announced.

Student complimentary tickets are available for the Performing Arts Series, the Broadway Series and the Braithwaite Music Series. Special Events offered at the Cowan Center are not discounted, and complimentary tickets are not made available. The Distinguished Lecture Series is offered at no charge to all students, and there is no limit until sold out.

All student complimentary tickets are for reserved seating. Students must obtain tickets in person at the box office. Tickets are issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

Beginning with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, UT Tyler employees who are students on scholarship as a benefit of their employment are entitled to one complimentary student ticket, if available, beginning on Monday two weeks after the sale date. Regular students are given the first two weeks to claim a ticket. Employees who are students must present their current staff identification card at the box office to claim a complimentary ticket.

The Cowan Center is offering a new benefit for students this year. Beginning with Cats on Sept. 21 and 22, the Cowan Center will offer a rush ticket for UT Tyler students only. The rush ticket is available for any seat still available in the house, regardless of original value, at only $10. Students must present their current student identification to receive the ticket. Tickets will be available 15 minutes before curtain, or 7:15 p.m. for the evening shows. Since the complimentary tickets are limited, this will give all students an additional chance to see shows at a very low price.

Students already have received the entire 200 complimentary tickets available for Cats, Thomae-Morphew said. “We urge them to take advantage of the rush tickets each night. Currently, it looks like we will have more rush ticket availability on Tuesday, Sept. 21.’’

The other show currently on sale is Tim Conway and Harvey Korman in Together Again with special guest Louise DuArt. There are still a few complimentary tickets available for that event on Saturday, Oct. 2.

The Cowan Center conducts a subscription drive each summer for all series of shows. Subscribers are seated first. Single tickets are made available for sale four weeks before each show on a Monday. Students and the public are on equal footing when single tickets go on sale.

Cowan Center box office hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday and one hour before curtain at all events. To view the entire lineup of 2004-05 Cowan Center events, visit: www.uttyler.edu/cowan.
