| Athletics to Broadcast Home Games
on Internet
The University
of Texas at Tyler athletics department has announced that the
majority of home sports events will be broadcast live over the
Internet this year on the department’s
home page via streaming audio.
Streaming broadcasts are essentially the same as a regular radio
broadcast except that listeners will pick up the broadcast over
the Internet. The UT Tyler broadcasts can be heard using Windows
Media Player which is already on most home computers or can be
downloaded for free.
UT Tyler will be one of the few NCAA Division III institutions
in the country to stream broadcasts in soccer, volleyball, basketball,
baseball and softball.
“We are extremely excited about offering this service,” said
UT Tyler athletics director Dr. Howard Patterson. “Our basketball
games will continue to be heard on the radio but streaming allows
us to broadcast home games in all of our sports.”
UT Tyler will use products and services from CBI Stream and CollegeStream.net.
The broadcast team will include Eric Jontra, Terry Bennett and
other experienced broadcasters, as well as members of the Patriots
athletic staff who will make guest appearances.
“This service will allow the University to reach a wide
audience, including students, faculty/staff, parents, alumni, recruits
and the fans in general,” said Patterson. “For parents
of our student-athletes who don’t live in the area, being
able to listen to their son’s or daughter’s games at
no cost will be a great service.”
For fans who miss the live broadcast, games will be archived
on the Internet for one year and can be heard at any time.
All broadcasts can be accessed on the UT Tyler athletics home
page at www.uttyler.edu/athletics.
