UT Tyler to Hold Children’s Carnival for Community
UT Tyler is hosting its second annual United to Serve Children’s Carnival for the public 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23 at the Patriot Center, announced Lou Ann Berman, executive director of community relations and student success.
The event is free and targets three to five year olds, but is open to all ages. More >>>

UT Tyler Athlete to Intern in Washington, D.C. This Summer
Kristin Thomas, a UT Tyler tennis player, has been selected for an internship at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. from June 6 – August 12.
Thomas will assist with the powwow hotline, email account, gather informational resources and assist with mailing flyers and hotel information. More>>>

Art Professor to Retire
Dr. William B. Stephens, UT Tyler professor of art, was recognized with a retirement reception April 8 at the Cowan Center. He will retire at the end of May.
Dr. Stephens has taught in higher education for almost 50 years, 29 of those at UT Tyler. Prior to UT Tyler, he taught at The Woman’s College and Mary-Hardin Baylor. More>>>

A Future Alumna Receives Her Official UT Tyler Ring

Lourdes de la Rosa, a senior education major, receives her UT Tyler official ring from Dr. Howard Patterson, dean of student affairs, at the third annual ring ceremony. Former UT Tyler Faculty Member and Alumna to Appear on ‘The View’

Deborah Bell, a former faculty member and alumna of UT Tyler will appear on ABC’s “The View” at 10 a.m. local time Wednesday, May 11.
Bell was nominated by a peer for the Johnson & Johnson’s Personal Products Company “Remarkable Woman” contest for improving the field of health and science. She was chosen from nationwide entries. More>>>
UT Tyler Offers Publishing and Grant Writing Workshop
Elizabeth Tornquist, professor and editor-in-residence at the University of North Carolina School of Nursing, will present a publishing and grant writing workshop on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 19 - 20, Dr. Gloria Duke, associate dean for outreach and research at UT Tyler College of Nursing and Health Sciences, announced. Want to Quit Smoking?
The UT Tyler College of Nursing and the Nursing Students’ Association is offering a smoking cessation program to UT Tyler faculty, staff and students at all three campuses free of charge.
The program will be held from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. April 20, 27 and 29 in the Braithwaite Building, room 1005 at the Tyler campus, in the Longview University Center, room 206 and at the Palestine campus, room 102. More>>>

Patriot Singers to Present 2nd Musical Theatre Revue
The UT Tyler Patriot Singers’ second annual musical theatre revue will be held Friday-Sunday, April 22-24, in the University Center.
Open to the public, the performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. April 22-23 and 3 p.m. April 24. There will be no admission fee. Dessert and coffee will be available for a $1 donation per person. More>>>

Math Professor to Retire in May
A retirement reception honoring Dr. Robert H. Cranford, professor of mathematics, will be held 3 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21 in ADM 301.
Dr. Cranford has taught mathematics at UT Tyler for 32 years and has served as mathematics department chair for 30 years. Prior to UT Tyler, he taught at the University of North Texas, Mississippi State University and Louisiana State University. More>>>

Talon Wins Awards and Names New Editors
The Patriot Talon announced two new editors for the coming academic year. The Talon, UT Tyler’s student newspaper, also earned awards at a recent statewide competition.
Adrienne E. Graham has been named editor in chief and Sara E. Davis has been named associate director of the Patriot Talon for the 2005-06 academic year. More>>>
