the Spotlight
Dr. Smita Mehta conducted a poster presentation entitled "Concurrent Implementation of Academic-cum-Behavioral Intervention for Students and Effective Instruction for Teachers" at the 2nd international conference of The Association of Positive Behavior Support, Tampa, FL (March 10-12, 2005).
Vicki Betts, UT Tyler librarian, had an article published in the journal Military History of the West (vol. 34, 2004) entitled "Civilian Reaction to the Red River Campaign, 1864, Natchitoches to Mansfield, Louisiana."
Dr. Mary Ellen Wright, assistant professor of theatre, presented a competitively selected paper at the national conference: Writing, Teaching, Performing America. The interdisciplinary conference was sponsored by The University of Kansas and the American Theatre and Drama Society. Dr. Wright’s paper was entitled, “Adrian Hall Revisits in the Belly of the Beast” and included projections of the productions of staged by Adrian Hall.
Dr. James Hatfield, professor and director of theatre presented a competitively selected paper at the national conference: Writing, Teaching, Performing America. The interdisciplinary conference was sponsored by The University of Kansas and the American Theatre and Drama Society. Dr. Hatfield’s paper was entitled “Staging In the Belly of the Beast - Revisited” and included selected video scenes from the performance directed and designed by Dr. Hatfield from Mr. Hall's play staged during the 2003 season at the UT Tyler Theatre.
Noted regional theatre and Broadway director Adrian Hall has served as a guest artist at the University of Texas at Tyler performing onstage with Katherine Helmond, also remembered as “Mona” in the TV series “Who’s the Boss,” in "Love Letters" and twice collaborating with Dr. Hatfield in teaching directing classes for theatre students. Dr. Wright was a sponsor in nominating Mr. Hall for the Association of Theatre in Higher Education Lifetime Achievement award in Professional Theatre which the organization awarded to him in 2003.
Marc Engelbrecht, an M.S. kinesiology major, won the master’s level student research development award for a research proposal he submitted to the Texas chapter of the American College of Sports Medicine annual meeting early March.
