Engineering Building Update
The south building of the William R. “Bill” Ratliff Engineering and Sciences Complex is scheduled to be completed for occupancy and classes by the beginning of the spring 2006 semester. The south building is closest to upper Harvey Lake.
“Certain elements of the College of Engineering and Computer Science as well as the Department of Chemistry will begin to move into the south building near the end of October or early November,” said Dr. Jim Ferguson, vice president of business affairs. The move will be completed in phases as dictated by the building completion schedule and will be designed to insure minimal disruption to ongoing fall semester classes and labs.
The north building, which faces the parking lot, will not be completed until additional funding is available. The current plans are to “shell” the building, which will make it look complete from the outside.
North building completion is pending the State Legislature’s approval of a tuition revenue bond that could provide $15 million to $20 million to finish the project, according to Dr. Ferguson.
Also to be completed by spring 2006 is the central utilities plant, located between the Ratliff Complex and the Business Administration Building. The plant will provide chilled water for the complex and serve as a backup for the campus utilities distribution system.
