WelcomeFest Activities Continue through Sept. 2
UT Tyler is celebrating the opening of the 2005-06 school year with WelcomeFest activities through Sept. 2.
WelcomeFest is coordinated by the UT Tyler Office of Student Development, with student organizations, campus offices and individuals involved in organizing the events.
Activities, which began Saturday, include:
Monday, Aug. 22 – Career Services will sponsor a laser shot game 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the University Center, room 255. International Student Orientation will be held 1 – 5 p.m. in the Herrington Patriot Center. The Psalms of David Gospel Choir will hold a concert at 7:30 p.m. in the University Center. An activity day will be held for individuals involved in student learning communities or the freshman year experience.
Tuesday, Aug. 23 – Freshman Convocation will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Cowan Center. Movie on the lawn featuring Hitch will begin at 8:30 p.m. behind the University Center.
Wednesday, Aug. 24 – First day of classes are held. VIPatriots will act as human directionals for new students. Career Services will sponsor a state department speaker noon – 1 p.m. in the University Center, room 255. Bob Hepler will hold a fitness extravaganza 5:15 – 10:15 p.m. in the Herrington Patriot Center.
Thursday, Aug. 25 – Career Services will host a Roadtrip Nation exploration lunch 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. in the University Center, room 255. Student development will hold a dodge ball tournament 5 – 10 p.m. in the Herrington Patriot Center gym along with the best pizza in Tyler contest at 7 p.m. also in the gym.
Friday, Aug. 26 – The Math Club will hold an ice cream social at noon in the Hudnall, Pirtle and Roosth Building, room 134. Student Government Association will host a party and concert by the pool 6 – 9 p.m. at the Herrington Patriot Center pool.
Saturday, Aug 27 – The VIPatriots will hold a sand volleyball tournament at 11 a.m. at both Patriot Village and University Pines.
Sunday, Aug. 28 – The Offices of Athletics and Business Affairs will host the orange and white soccer game and tailgate party at 7 p.m. on the UT Tyler soccer field.
Monday, Aug. 29 – Career Services will sponsor a laser shot game 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the University Center, room 255. Baptist Student Ministry will host a free lunch at noon in the University Center, room 221/227.
Tuesday, Aug. 30 – Career services will hold a blood drive 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and show the movie Guess Who in UC 221/227. Student Development will hold a volunteer fair 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the University Center open area. Campus Computing Services will host a HALO tournament 5 – 11 p.m. in the University Center open area. Alpha Phi Omega will hold a welcome party and interest meeting 4 p.m. in the University Center, room 221.
Wednesday, Aug. 31 – Bob Hepler will host a recreation sports expo and pool party noon – 8 p.m. at the Herrington Patriot Center.
Thursday, Sept. 1 - A student organization showcase will take place 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the University Center open area. The student counseling center will host free massages 1 – 4 p.m. in the University Center, room 282. Baptist Student Ministry will host free laundry night beginning at 6 p.m. at Patriot Village and University Pines.
Friday, Sept. 2 – A cookout will take place at 7 p.m. at Patriot Village.
