| TXDOT Thanks Student Organizations for Highway Clean-Up

Five student organizations at UT Tyler were awarded plaques by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for their participation in the “Adopt-a Highway” program.
A total of 10 miles is being cleaned and maintained by The Accounting Society, American Chemical Society, Muslim Student Association, Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Association and Tri Beta – Kappa XI. Each organization agreed to clean a two-mile stretch of road four times a year for two years.
“We are very proud of our students,” said Lou Ann Berman, executive director of community relations for UT Tyler. “Their commitment keeps our community beautiful and saves tax dollars.”
Don’t Mess with Texas launched a new program for all public universities last year to promote awareness about the litter problem among college age students.
Mary Owens, District Engineer for the Tyler district of TxDOT, presented a representative from each organization with a plaque of appreciation.
