| “Vincent in Brixton” Receives Regional Awards
“Vincent in Brixton” received five more awards at the Regional Festival for the region VI Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival at The University of Arkansas February 26. "Vincent in Brixton" was selected to perform by the sixteen member KCACTF Regional Committee as one of the most outstanding productions produced in the five state region, which includes Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
Dr. James Hatfield, professor and director of the theatre was presented excellence in set design, excellence in direction and excellence in set dressing.
Dr. Mary Ellen Wright, assistant professor of theatre received an award for excellence in costume design and Connie Orr, graduate MAIS student in theatre , was awarded excellence in properties.
The awards for costume design, set dressing, set design and properties were the only awards given in those categories.
The story of “Vincent in Brixton’’ reveals one version of events stemming from the loves and passions of the young artist Vincent Van Gogh, who once lived in a boarding house in the south London borough of Brixton. Playwright Nicholas Wright uses true events on which to build a compelling dramatization of young Vincent’s rebellion, character development and passion.
