| Student Groups to be Honored for Adopt-a-Highway Involvement
UT Tyler will participate in the March 2005 Don’t Mess with Texas Campus Cleanup campaign by recognizing UT Tyler student organizations that participate in the state Adopt-a-Highway program.
The recognition ceremony will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, in the UT Tyler Administration Building, Room 301, Dr. Lou Ann Berman, executive director of community relations, announced.
Mary Owen, district engineer with the Texas Department of Transportation, will present plaques to organization presidents. Organizations to be recognized include the Accounting Society, Tri Beta Biology Honor Society, Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society, Muslim Student Association and Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Association.
“We want to acknowledge these student leaders for their contribution to the community,’’ Dr. Berman said. “It is wonderful to have their ongoing commitment and dedication toward improving our environment and preserving the natural beauty of East Texas.’’
Part of TxDOT’s Don’t Mess with Texas program, Campus Cleanup was started in 2004 to encourage college students to get involved in litter-prevention activities on their campuses and in their communities. More than 20 colleges and universities across the state are planning to hold Campus Cleanup events this month.
