Epsilon Pi Tau, an international honor society for professions in technology, installed a charter chapter, Delta Gamma, and initiated its first members at UT Tyler.

UT Health Clinic Groundbreaking

UT Tyler and UT Health Center at Tyler held a groundbreaking ceremony to announce construction of the new UT Health Clinic.
The $3 million clinic, operated by UTHCT, will be located on the UT Tyler campus and will serve UT Tyler students, faculty and staff and the Tyler community. More>>>

UT Tyler will offer a variety of camps this summer.

Track & Field Club Compete at ASC Meet
The UT Tyler track and field club competed in the ASC conference track and field championship meet April 22.
In the women’s division, Charity Bolling placed second in the 10,000 meter run at 45:34.71 and fourth in the 5,000 meter at 21:13.91. More>>>

UT Tyler Students Place in Semi-Final Round at Voice Competition
Elise Leung and Matthew Smith, two voice performance students, placed in the semi-final round at the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter auditions of the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition, Dr. Mark Johnson, UT Tyler assistant professor of music, announced.

Fabac and Gilbreath to Retire in August
A retirement reception was held April 28 for technology professors Dr. John Fabac and Dr. Tommy Gilbreath, who will retire in august.
Both Dr. Fabac and Dr. Gilbreath helped lay the cornerstone for the technology department, according to Dr. Jim Tarter, dean of the college of business and technology. More>>>

State Authorizes First Ph.D. Program for UT Tyler
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board authorized the planning of a Ph.D. program in nursing at UT Tyler, President Rodney H. Mabry announced. Meeting in Austin, the Coordinating Board approved what will be UT Tyler's first doctoral level program and one of only seven nursing doctoral programs in the state. More>>>
Dr. C. Arlene Horne Named Director of Sponsored Research
UT Tyler has appointed Dr. C. Arlene Horne as director of sponsored research, Dr. Rick Osburn, provost and vice president for academic affairs, announced.
Dr. Horne will provide leadership to UT Tyler in establishing the Office of Sponsored Research, the mission of which will be to promote, facilitate, manage and coordinate funded research activity across the university. More>>>

UT Tyler Debate Team Wins Trophies at Tournament
Three members of the UT Tyler debate team received first place in the varsity division and two others received honors at the International Public Debate Association National Championship Tournament, Dr. Jeffrey Hobbs, associate professor of speech communication and director of forensics, announced.
Noah Conklin, senior speech communication major; Darci Meadville, sophomore major undecided; and Ryan Palmquist, senior finance major, were three of the four semi-finalists in the varsity division. More>>>

Scholarship Monies Awarded to Math/Science Education Students

Nine UT Tyler students were awarded teaching scholarships by Dr. Ann Guilbert, interim director of the Teaching Excellence in Mathematics and Science (TEMS) program.
The scholarship provides $1,000 towards a completion of a bachelor’s degree and an engagement in a 40-hour internship with Camp Tyler and the Discovery Science Place. More>>>

Over 110 UT Tyler students participated in the Arc’s 16th Annual Walk-a-Mile for a special child event April 21. The UT Tyler team won the college and university challenge for the most participants. More>>>

University Forms National Society of Black Engineers Chapter

UT Tyler has established a chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers, Dr. Troy Henson, dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science, announced.
With more than 270 chapters on college and university campuses and 150 alumni extension and pre-college chapters, NSBE’s mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. More>>>

ASME Wins Contest, Student Places Third

The student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) won the Mystery Design Contest and a mechanical engineering student won third place in the Old Guard Poster competition at the Regional Student Conference in Lubbock March 31 – April 2. More>>>

UT Tyler Athletics Finishes Season with Honors
UT Tyler’s athletic teams wrapped up the spring season with multiple honors.
The baseball team won the ASC East pennant, and had the highest overall winning percentage in the conference. If not for NCAA provisional status, they would have played in the ASC tournament for an NCAA bid. More>>>

A juried student exhibition featuring recent works from studio art classes can be viewed through Aug. 17 at the Meadows Gallery, located in UT Tyler Cowan Center.
