| Fabac and Gilbreath to Retire in August
A retirement reception was held April 28 for technology professors Dr. John Fabac and Dr. Tommy Gilbreath, who will retire in august.
Both Dr. Fabac and Dr. Gilbreath helped lay the cornerstone for the technology department, according to Dr. Jim Tarter, dean of the college of business and technology.
Dr. Fabac has taught at UT Tyler for 18 years. He began his career as an electronics technician and instructor in the U.S. Air Force. He then taught and later served as the dean of students at the North Chicago High School. Prior to arriving at UT Tyler, he was the manager of instruction at the Datapoint Corporation in San Antonio.
Dr. Fabac earned his bachelor of science, master of science and doctorate of education all in industrial education from the University of Illinois (Urbana/Champaign). He plans to spend his retirement days bicycling and sailing.
Dr. Gilbreath has taught at UT Tyler for 29 years, and administers the bachelor of applied arts and sciences degree. He taught drafting in El Paso public schools from 1964-1968. He was then a teacher/supervisor for the Snyder public schools before becoming director of industrial technology at Lubbock Christian University.
Dr. Gilbreath earned his bachelor of science in industrial arts from Sul Ross State University. He later earned his master of education and doctorate of education, both in industrial education from Texas A&M University. He plans to be active with Meals on Wheels and the Literary Council of Tyler in his retirement days.
