Dr. C. Arlene Horne Named Director of Sponsored Research

Dr. C. Arlene Horne head shotUT Tyler has appointed Dr. C. Arlene Horne as director of sponsored research, Dr. Rick Osburn, provost and vice president for academic affairs, announced.

Dr. Horne will provide leadership to UT Tyler in establishing the Office of Sponsored Research, the mission of which will be to promote, facilitate, manage and coordinate funded research activity across the university.

Prior to joining UT Tyler, she served as executive director of research and sponsored programs at New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, N.M.

“We are very excited to have a person of this background and caliber to join us at UT Tyler in developing our sponsored research program,’’ Dr. Osburn said. “I am very excited about the potential of our outstanding faculty to work with Dr. Horne to significantly increase the federal funding coming to our university.’’

Dr. Horne said, “I am so pleased to be at UT Tyler and to have an opportunity to aid the university in its transition into the external research funding arena.’’

As executive director of research and sponsored programs at NMHU, Dr. Horne was responsible for coordinating, developing and promoting sponsored research and education across the main campus and three university branches. She also served as a tenured full professor of experimental psychology.

Prior to joining the faculty at NMHU in 1990, Dr. Horne held the positions of teaching assistant and College of Education statistics laboratory consultant at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, N.M.

Dr. Horne holds a doctorate degree in psychological foundations with an emphasis in research methodology and statistics from the University of New Mexico and a master of arts in counseling psychology and master of science in psychology from NMHU. She holds a bachelor of science in psychology and an associate of arts in social science from Campbell University, Buies Creek, N.C.

She is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Rocky Mountain Psychological Association, Western Psychological Association, Women in Neuroscience, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Sigma Xi Honor Society.
