UT Tyler Patriot Classic Events Slated for May 7 – 16

UT Tyler’s annual scholarship fundraiser will begin Saturday, May 7 with the UT Tyler Cox Communications Patriot Million Dollar Hole-in-One Contests in Tyler and Longview.

The Hole-in-One contests offer amateur golfers age 18 and older the opportunity to compete, at $1 per shot, in preliminary daily rounds.

The Tyler contest site is off Old Bullard Road behind the Holiday Inn Select. The Longview contest will be held at the UT Tyler Longview University Center.

Daily qualifiers are persons who hit closest to the hole, as well as those who hit a hole-in-one, during the qualifying rounds.

The finals, and the chance to win a truck, a boat or $1 million, will take place at Willow Brook Country Club on Sunday, May 15. Three holes are set up on the green during the finals, and each hole corresponds to one of the prizes.

The prizes include a 2005 F-150 Supercrew truck, provided by Tyler Ford, and a 2005 Sun Tracker Pontoon boat.

The Tyler site will hold qualifying opportunities on Mother’s Day, May 8, as well as a Mother’s Day drawing. The Longview site will be closed on Mother’s Day.

The schedule of events with special qualifiers includes:

  • Ladies Day Monday, May 9 at both sites.
  • PGA Pro Day noon – 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 10 at Tyler site. Contestants purchasing $25 of Hole-In-One tickets at the Tyler site on May 10 will receive a 5-minute personal instruction with a PGA Pro.
  • Seniors Day, for golfers 65 years and older, Wednesday, May 11 at both sites.

The UT Tyler Cox Communications Patriot Million Dollar Hole-in-One Contest, an official event of the UT Tyler Patriot Classic, is presented in conjunction with KLTV Channel 7, KTBB AM 600 Radio and Longview and Kilgore Cable TV.

The Texas “Shootout” Barbecue and Auction will be 6 p.m. Sunday, May 15 at the UT Tyler Herrington Patriot Center.

Country artist Jamie O’Neal will be the evening’s entertainment.

UT Tyler employee tickets to the barbecue are $32.50 each and can be purchased in advance or at the door.

The Texas “Shootout” Barbecue features the concert, live and silent auction items, a four-vehicle choice drawing courtesy of Tyler Ford and dinner catered by Spring Creek Barbecue.

Winner of an Academy of Country Music Top New Female Vocalist award and Billboard’s Top New Country Artist award, O’Neal has been nominated for three Grammy Awards.

Her latest album, “Brave,” was released in March.

The Patriot Golf Classic will be Monday, May 16 at Hollytree Country Club.

Thirty-six teams will participate in the tournament that will feature prizes unlike any other amateur tournament in this area, according to Patriot Golf Classic chair George Rowe.
