In the Spotlight

Dr. H. Neil Gray, associate professor of chemistry, received the President’s Scholarly Achievement Award, and Dr. Brian Taylor, associate professor of chemistry, received the UT System Chancellor’s Council Teaching Award. Both awards are the highest received recognitions. Dr. Gray is also serving as president of the Faculty Senate for 2005-06.

Dr. Jason Smee has joined the chemistry faculty as assistant professor. He is an inorganic chemist and received his Ph.D. at Texas A&M University in 2000. From 2000 to 2005, he was a postdoctoral fellow at Colorado State University.

The American Chemical Society Student Affiliate Chapter at UT Tyler received the Outstanding Chapter Award for its activities in 2004-05 by the national ACS. Only 32 of over 970 chapters received this recognition. This is the seventh consecutive year that the chapter has been nationally recognized by the ACS. Drs. Neil Gray and Brian Taylor have served as chapter advisors.

Posters by senior nursing lecturers Melinda Hermanns and Carol Ann Russell-Broaddus "An Integrative Review of the Literature: Evidence to Support Health Outcomes of Patients with Companion Animals and the Human Animal Bond" and "The Suicidal Patient Experience of Nursing Care in the Emergency Room” were accepted for the Iota Nu chapter conference of Sigma Theta Tau International. The conference titled “Realizing the Vision: Transforming Nursing Through Evidence-Based Practice,” will be held Oct. 14 at UT Tyler.
