UT Tyler Electrical Engineering Receives over $200,000 in Grants

The Department of Electrical Engineering at UT Tyler has been awarded two grants totaling $220,599 by the Texas Workforce Development, Dr. Troy Henson, dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science, announced.

Dr. Mukul Shirvaikar, associate professor of electrical engineering, will serve as the principal investigator on a grant in the amount of $125,000.

Dr. Hassan El-Kishky, associate professor of electrical engineering, will serve as the principal investigator on a grant in the amount of $95,599.

Both grants will be used to set up a tutoring program and a design and development program to increase the retention of freshmen, underrepresented minorities and women, and attract more students to study electrical engineering.

The grants are sponsored by the Texas Engineering and Technology Consortium. TETC is a non-profit organization supported by nine members and has 34 participating schools in Texas.

Through TETC, Texas Workforce Development grants focus on best practices in recruiting and retention to increase the number of engineering and computer science graduates in Texas.
