UT Tyler Names Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Nursing Professorship

Dr. Lynn WieckDr. Lynn Wieck has been selected as the recipient of the Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Professorship for the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Dr. Linda Klotz, dean, announced.

The $100,000 professorship was developed to benefit faculty responsibilities in teaching, service and research.

Wieck previously served as chief executive officer for Management Solutions for Healthcare and has taught at Texas Woman’s University and the University of the Incarnate Word.

For the last five years, Wieck has conducted research on solutions to the nursing shortage including national studies on retaining young nurses under 35, and mature, experienced nurses over age 40 who are considering retirement.

“I plan to use the Braithwaite scholar funds to continue my studies of creating an ideal work environment to encourage nurses to stay in the workforce in rural hospitals. This preliminary work will lay the foundation for further study of creating a safe and satisfying work environment that protects patients and retains nurses,” said Wieck.

The late Jacqueline M. Braithwaite actively supported the academic and cultural life of UT Tyler and was honored in 1992 as the university's Patriot of the Year.

An active philanthropist, Mrs. Braithwaite has left her mark with numerous UT Tyler contributions such as those for the Braithwaite Recital Hall, Braithwaite Gardens, the Braithwaite Performing Arts Series and the David G. and Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Building, which houses the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
