UT Tyler Professor’s Ceramic Art Displayed in International Traveling Exhibition

UT Tyler associate professor of art Gary Hatcher was invited by the Japanese Embassy to display his ceramic art in an international exhibition.
The exhibition, “Joy of the Noble Teacup,” is currently traveling to six museums and galleries in Europe and Japan displaying chawans, which are cups specifically made for the Japanese tea ceremony.
Japanese tea ceremonies are held at each exhibition stop by masters of the art of tea.
Hatcher has published numerous articles focused around Japanese traditional art of mingei, and participated in 18 invitational exhibitions and two juried exhibitions in the last year. In addition to venues in Belgium and Japan, he has exhibited in Germany, Taiwan and numerous places in the United States.
