UT Tyler Designated as Special Needs Shelter During Hurricane Season


July 3, 2006

The University of Texas at Tyler will open its doors to those with medical needs should the hurricane season cause evacuations, President Rodney H. Mabry announced.

Operated by the Northeast Texas Public Health District, the shelter would be a collaboration between the Health District, UT Tyler, East Texas Food Bank and UT Health Center at Tyler. The shelter would be located in the UT Tyler Fisch Convocation Center. More...


Nelson Appointed Dean of Engineering, Computer Science


Dr. James NelsonDr. James Nelson has been appointed the new dean of The University of Texas at Tyler College of Engineering and Computer Science, President Rodney Mabry, announced.

Dr. Nelson is being promoted from his current position of UT Tyler professor and chair of the civil engineering department where he has led the development of the bachelor and master of science degrees in civil engineering, as well as the civil and environmental engineering facilities and recruiting of faculty and students. White Named Interim Dean of College of Arts, Sciences

Alisa WhiteDr. Alisa White will serve as interim dean of The University of Texas at Tyler College of Arts and Sciences for the 2006-07 academic year, Dr. Richard Osburn, UT Tyler provost, announced.

The University of Texas at Tyler Louise Herrington Patriot Center will offer its Patriot Speed and Strength Summer Camp 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. July 17 – 22 and July 24 – 28, Bob Hepler, UT Tyler director of recreational facilities, announced.
