September 8, 2005The University of Texas at Tyler has accepted 32 students who were displaced due to Hurricane Katrina, President Rodney Mabry announced.
The students represent five New Orleans higher education institutions and includes the University of New Orleans men’s and women’s basketball teams.
"UT Tyler has opened the campus to a Red Cross shelter, discounted tuition for displaced Louisiana students, and will host the UNO basketball programs this fall. It is an honor to share what we have with our neighbors," said Dr. Dale Lunsford, vice president of student affairs and external relations.
The UNO basketball program will play the home games at UT Tyler.
“We are glad that we are able to assist UNO in their time of need,” said Dr. Howard Patterson, UT Tyler athletic director. “Besides hosting UNO’s games, we will also be providing office space and support for the UNO coaching staff and administrative personnel.”
