UT Tyler Receives Funds from Area Wal-Mart Stores for Defense Program
The University of Texas at Tyler received $2,000 in gifts from two area Wal-Mart Supercenters which will help fund the university police department’s defense program, UT Tyler police chief Mike Medders announced.
Wal-Mart Supercenters #345 in Palestine and #1022 in Tyler each granted $1000 to the UT Tyler Patriot Defense Program. Wal-Mart and Sam’s retailers have donated a total of $3500 to Patriot Defense this calendar year, according to Heath Cariker, UT Tyler police officer.
Patriot Defense is a UT Tyler police program that instructs students, faculty and staff in self-defense, personal safety and conflict resolution techniques.
The funds provided by these gifts will be used for new equipment and continuing education for program instructors.
