State of Tomorrow™ PBS Series Begins Airing April 2

The State of Tomorrow™ documentary series examining higher education involvement in many of today’s critical issues will begin airing tonight on the local PBS station, channel 13.
           
The 13-episode series will air at 11 p.m. each Monday night and will highlight extraordinary work, groundbreaking research and the state's most innovative thinkers who are committed to solving the greatest challenges of this new century.
           
The second episode, Disaster Response, including UT Tyler interviews will air on Monday, April 9.

This episode highlights the little-known contributions of higher education in saving lives during the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, as well as its comprehensive planning for natural and intentional disasters in the future.

UT Tyler was the site of an American Red Cross shelter for Hurricane Katrina survivors. The UT Tyler nursing faculty, led by Dr. Janith Williams and Dr. Danita Alfred, and students staffed the shelter’s health clinic.

The PBS episode describes how, while at the UT Tyler shelter, James Miller was reunited with his young son, from whom he’d been separated during the evacuation process.
           
Texas A&M University System, Texas State University System, Texas Tech University System, University of Houston System, University of North Texas System and The University of Texas System, have all collaborated in this series that highlights extraordinary work going on at campuses around the state.
