UT Tyler Lecturer Selected to Participate in AP Reading in Florida

Dr. Larry Carter, senior lecturer of political science at The University of Texas at Tyler, was selected to participate in the annual reading and scoring of the College Board’s Advanced Placement examinations in government and politics, Dr. Alisa White, UT Tyler College of Arts and Sciences interim dean, announced.

The reading was held June 1 – 8 at the Ocean Center Convention Complex in Daytona Beach, Fla. This year was Carter’s 10th year to serve as an AP reader.

“The AP readings offer American government teachers a chance to share ideas about technology and teaching methods. In the evenings, a number of workshops are held that deal with American politics. Overall, it is a great experience,” said Carter.

More than 600 faculty consultants from high schools and universities across North America took part in the government and politics readings. Sixty percent of U.S. high schools currently participate in the AP program.

Many universities in the United States have an AP policy granting incoming students credit, advanced placement or both, on the basis of their AP exam grades. Thirty-five AP courses in a wide variety of subject areas are currently available.
