UT Tyler Undergoes Main Entrance Change

Work is currently underway to enhance the main entrance at The University of Texas at Tyler, Gregg Lassen, UT Tyler vice president of business affairs, announced.

Construction began July 10. With weather permitting, the project will be completed by the beginning of the fall 2007 semester in August.

Improvements will include a new one-way entrance and one-way exit that will form a loop to and from the UT Tyler Administration Building, University Center and Herrington Patriot Center parking lots.

“The new entrance will allow for improved traffic flow onto campus, which will improve safety and will also enhance the aesthetic quality of entering the campus,” said Lassen. “The current entrance road is a bit narrow for two-way traffic, and the traffic flow pattern that exists is not optimal.”

Portions of the existing entrance are currently blocked off; however vehicles may still enter and exit through the area.

“We want to remind everyone that there are other entrances to campus that can be used while this project is underway,” Lassen added.

Other entrances include the north entrance off Varsity Drive, the R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center entrance, the west entrance off Patriot Avenue and Lake Drive off University Boulevard.
