UT Tyler Recognizes National Campus Safety Month

National Campus Safety Awareness Month is this month, UT Tyler counselor Kim Harvey-Livingston, announced.

“Studies have shown that first-year students are particularly vulnerable to campus violence and sexual assault, especially in their first few weeks of class,”Harvey-Livingston said. “UT Tyler’s Safety Week, which has been expanding into Safety Month, was created to educate students early in the semester on various ways to prevent campus violence.”

From keeping doors and windows locked, to being cautious about personal information posted to community Web sites, Harvey-Livingston said it is important to remember this is not just a female issue.

“Men can be hurt, stalked and/or attacked as well. Men also should know how to intervene to protect a female friend or loved one or to respond to someone who has been a victim. In bringing safety awareness week/month to our campus, we are standing together to continue to be a safe and healthy campus,” she added.
