UT Tyler Health Fair set for Feb. 6

The University of Texas at Tyler Wellness and Prevention Education Services will hold a free university-wide health fair on Feb. 6, Ida MacDonald, student services director, announced.

The health fair, which is open to all faculty, staff and students, will be 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in the University Center. This year’s theme is “Your Health: 2 Precious + 2 Be Taken = 4 Granted.”

In the UC, there will be approximately 15 different booths and exhibits from various on-campus and community organizations. The Texas Department of Transportation exhibit, Stewart Blood Mobile and Ross Breast Center mobile mammography van also will be parked outside the UC and the Herrington Patriot Center.

“All participants will be given a card where they can record the results of the various health screenings that they participate in and will be eligible to win some nice door prizes,” MacDonald said. "I hope the campus community wil take the opportunity to participate in the health fair."

The following participating organizations and their emphasis are:

  • American Cancer Society (skin cancer prevention)
  • Campus Police (safety)
  • Ken Miller - (10-minute chair massages)
  • Patriot Center (height, weight, body fat)
  • Ross Breast Center (mammograms)
  • Tyler Aids Services (HIV testing)
  • University Health Clinic (glucose/cholesterol screening)
  • Smoothie King (smoothies)
  • Texas Dept of Transportation (Rollover Convincer exhibit)
  • Texas Cooperative Extension Service (smoking/smokeless tobacco use prevention)
  • Brookshire’s Grocery (healthy snacks)
  • Community Health Table (diabetes prevention and other health topics)
  • Nursing students (blood pressure, vision screening, oxygen saturation)
  • Bone Marrow Registry
  • Stewart Blood Mobile
  • Wellness & Prevention Education Services - University Mothers Against Drunk Driving
  • Wellness & Prevention Education Services - Campus Assault Response Effort
  • Student Services (depression/anxiety screenings and biofeedback demonstrations)
