Sexual Assault Awareness Walk at UT Tyler
February 27, 2008
The University of Texas at Tyler will hold its first sexual assault awareness walk and fundraiser on Saturday, April 12, Dr. Howard Patterson, UT Tyler interim vice president for student affairs and external relations, announced.
“A nationally-known event, 'Walk a Mile in Her Shoes,' promotes awareness of sexual assault and invites males of all ages to literally put themselves in a pair of ‘her’ shoes (high heels preferred) for one mile,” Kim Harvey Livingston, UT Tyler counselor, said.
The walk begins at 11 a.m. at the Herrington Patriot Center. Although the event is geared toward
males, females may join as well. Priority sign-up deadline is Friday, March 7. The university community and general public, as either individuals or teams, are invited to participate.
Those teams with the largest turnout, most spirit and highest pledge total will be recognized immediately preceding the start of the Patriot Men’s Baseball game.
Individuals will be recognized for both greatest number of individual pledges and greatest amount of money raised as well as for wildest pair of shoes.
The event is sponsored by the UT Tyler Office of Wellness and Prevention, peer educators of the Campus Assault Response Effort and UT Tyler Department of Athletics.
