Army Promotion at UT Tyler

A staff sergeant within the United States Army was promoted to sergeant first class during a ceremony recently held at The University of Texas at Tyler.

At the request of the United States Army Recruiting Command and Congressman Louie Gohmert, retired Lieutenant Colonel Jesse Acosta, UT Tyler Chief of Staff (right), promoted Hector Gonzalez.

The ceremony took place March 3 in the UT Tyler Administration Building. Members of the recruiting company also were in attendance.

Promotion to E7 Sergeant First Class is a Department of the Army level promotion. Retired officers like Acosta, Chief of Staff at UT Tyler are permitted to conduct these ceremonies by virtue of his officer commission.
