The University of Texas at Tyler will be one of 10 sites for an effort to curb drunk drivers during the Labor Day holiday.

A simulated jail will be set up at 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22 in front of the UT Tyler Herrington Patriot Center. Participants will get an idea of what they would experience if they drink and drive and are arrested.

The Texas Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have coordinated the Labor Day nationwide impaired driving crackdown, and TxDOT leads the local “Drink. Drive. Go to Jail.” campaign.

A press conference will be held at 10 a.m. featuring speakers from law enforcement, TxDOT and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
