UT Tyler, in conjunction with the Texas Tribune, will host a political discussion event featuring Rep. David Simpson (R-Longview) and Sen. Kevin Eltife (R-Tyler).

“The Hot Seat in Tyler” will be 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10 at the UT Tyler Ornelas Activity Center.

Evan Smith, Texas Tribune CEO and editor-in-chief, will lead a livelyconversation with both politicians about the upcoming 83rd legislative session.

To RSVP, visit the Texas Tribune reservation page. A light lunch will be provided.

Simpson grew up in Highland Park as a seventh-generation Texan and was first elected to represent House District 7 in 2010. From 1993 to 1998, Simpson served as mayor of his ancestors’ tiny town of Avinger. He is the president and chief executive officer of Avinger Timber LLC and founder of the Simpson Publishing Company.

Eltife, the owner of Eltife Properties, was sworn in to represent Senate District 1 in 2004. He previously served three terms on the Tyler City Council and later as the city’s mayor. He is the current chairman of the Senate Committee on Administration and is a member on the Economic Development, Business and Commerce, Finance, Natural Resources, Open Government (select) and Redistricting (select) committees. Eltife also serves on the Fiscal Matters, Medicaid and Articles VI & VII subcommittees.

The Hot Seat conversation series is sponsored by AT&T, BP, Christus Health and Raise Your Hand Texas and underwritten by the KDK Harmen Foundation.
