Effective Monday, Sept. 17, the City of Tyler is reinstating the parking restriction on Varsity Drive.

The city temporarily allowed parking on this street while UT Tyler addressed its parking issues. As of Sept. 14, no parking will be allowed 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The signs designating the 'no parking' areas will be uncovered late Thursday afternoon.

UT Tyler has taken several actions to ease the parking issues. A new shuttle will begin servicing the campus on Monday, Sept. 17. The shuttle will run 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. to transport students to and from Rose Heights Church on Old Omen Road and Parking Lot 8, which is in front of the UT Tyler Ratliff Engineering Building North (RBN). The shuttle will run every 20 minutes.

"This will be a two-week trial to determine student demand for a shuttle service so that decisions can be made for a possible long-term shuttle solution," said Mike Medders, UT Tyler police chief.

Three parking lots also have been re-striped in order to regain some of the spaces lost during the summer resurfacing project.

The university also has constructed three temporary parking lots – the grass area adjacent to Lot 7 at the corner of Old Omen Road and Varsity Drive, the area between Lot 6 and the main entrance and the grassy area at the end of Lot 16 near the soccer field. Students are not permitted to park on the soccer field.
