The University of Texas at Tyler has suspended its shuttle service due to low participation, Mike Medders, chief of police, announced.

“The university provided a free shuttle service for two weeks in an attempt to gauge student interest in a permanent shuttle for the university,” Medders said.

UT Tyler’s initiatives to address its parking issues seem to have reduced the need for a shuttle at this time. Those initiatives included constructing three temporary parking areas on campus and re-striping three other parking lots to regain some of the spaces lost during resurfacing.

“Although we are discontinuing the shuttle service for the time being, a shuttle service is still being considered as a component of a long-term parking solution,” he added.

The three temporary parking lot locations are the grass area adjacent to Lot 7 at the corner of Old Omen Road and Varsity Drive, the area between Lot 6 and the main entrance and the grassy area at the end of Lot 16 near the soccer field.
