UT Tyler Sponsors Café Con Leche Event

October 18, 2012

UT Tyler, in partnership with Tyler Junior College, will hold Café Con Leche for prospective Hispanic students and their families on Monday, Oct. 22 at the Rogers Student Center on the TJC campus, Sarah Bowdin, UT Tyler director of admissions, announced.

Presentations will be 6 – 7 p.m. in English and 7:05 – 8 p.m. in Spanish.

Café Con Leche allows Latino parents to learn more about the education and career opportunities for their children in a non-threatening setting. Facilitated by Gonzalo Robles, educational consultant, these forums happen in familiar places such as schools, universities, community centers and churches around Texas.

Café Con Leche was first developed by the Institute for Public School Initiatives at UT Austin.

Robles has worked with more than 40 communities and partners throughout Texas including the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Austin Independent School District, UT Pan American, UT San Antonio, UT Brownsville, UT El Paso, UT Tyler, Tyler Junior College, UT Odessa, Central Texas College, Amarillo College, West Texas University, Blinn College, P-16 councils and Hispanic Chambers of Commerce.

He holds a master’s degree in international relations from Texas State University and a bachelor’s degree in Latin American studies from UT Austin.
