UT Tyler will present the Jazz Connection in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 28 in the University Center theater, Dr. Michael Thrasher, School of Performing Arts director, announced.

The Jazz Connection, a Tyler group of professional musicians, will perform classic jazz, old standards and two original compositions during the public concert.

Musicians are Dr. John Webb, UT Tyler professor of music on saxophones and flute; J.T. Pundt, Eastman Chemical engineer on trumpet; George Faber, director of visual and preforming arts for Tyler Independent School District on keyboard; Alex Blair, John Tyler High School and Dogan Middle School orchestra director on bass; and Joey Monk, professional musician on drums.

“The Jazz Connection was formed out of love for America’s original art form – jazz,” said Webb, the group’s founder. “We are blessed with the privilege of performing for others, especially to be able to play all kinds of jazz at such a creative level. When we get together it’s like a lively conversation among friends.

“The Jazz Connection isn’t about making money or being background elevator music, it’s about fulfilling the soul and connecting with the audience in a meaningful way. It doesn’t get any better than that,” Webb added.

This performance is part of the UT Tyler 2013 Summer Chamber Music Series, Thrasher added.
