The UT Tyler Police Department is currently holding a public toy drive for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Smith County, Mike Medders, chief of police, announced.

Participants may bring new, unwrapped toys for children ages 2 and older to the department no later than Thursday, Dec. 5. The police department is located at 3410 Varsity Drive in the UT Tyler University Service Center, room 125.

“Please join The University of Texas at Tyler Police Department in making the holidays a little brighter for local children and their families,” Medders said. “As a reminder, the department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

The police department will also accept additional items for the CAC to help fulfill the needs of children and families, Medders added. These items include diapers, pull-ups, baby wipes, diaper rash ointment, pacifiers, pack-n-plays, new clothing (newborn to teen sizes), new coats (toddler to teen sizes) sippee cups and bottles.

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Smith County is dedicated to child victims of physical and sexual abuse and strives to reduce trauma through a unified effort that facilitates thorough investigations, effective prosecutions and the healing of the children and their families.
