Dr. Letha Clair Robertson, UT Tyler assistant professor of art history, will be featured in a symposium sponsored by the Tyler Museum of Art.

The “Between the States Symposium” will be 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31 in the Jean Browne Theatre, located on the TJC campus across from the TMA.

Presented in conjunction with the exhibitions “Between the States” and “The American Civil War’s Impact on Tyler,” the program will cover a variety of topics related to the U.S. Civil War including art, photography, North Texas’ role in the conflict and collecting period artifacts. Speakers include Robertson, who also serves as guest curator.

Her talk at 11:15 a.m. titled “The Art of the Civil War” will cover a variety of works and artists from the era, including pieces by American artist Thomas Hicks on view in the exhibition.

“Between the States: Photographs of the American Civil War from the George Eastman House Collection” commemorates the 150th anniversary of the war and highlights the photographic processes of the period. “The American Civil War’s Impact on Tyler” frames the war from the perspective of Smith County through photographs, maps and historical artifacts.
