UT Tyler to Hold ‘Veterans Week’ Nov. 10 – 14

UT Tyler will hold special events for veterans and the campus community Nov. 10 – 14, Chris Cox, UT Tyler Veterans Resource Center coordinator, announced.

To kick-off UT Tyler ‘Veterans Week,’ the Office of Veteran Affairs will hold a campus wide memorial ceremony 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10 at the UT Tyler Riter Millennium Carillon Tower. Rain location will be the University Center theater.

“We are inviting and encouraging all UT Tyler student and alumni veterans, as well as dependents and supporters to participate in our first Veterans Week here at UT Tyler,” Cox said.

Other events include:

Monday, Nov. 10

  • Coins honoring fallen warriors to be placed on grave sites in community.

Tuesday, Nov. 11

  • Trade Day for Gear.
  • Coin Challenge: 1 – 4 p.m. VRC.

Wednesday, Nov. 12

  • Community Service Day: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Watkins Logan Home, partnering with the UT Tyler Department of Student Life and Leadership.
  • Push Up Contest: 10 a.m. UC and VRC.

Thursday, Nov. 13

  • Vet Panel: 9 – 10 a.m. UC theater. Come find out what it means to be a veteran; ask questions.
  • Alumni Day: UT Tyler veteran alumni receive free t-shirts in the VRC and also after panel.

Friday, Nov. 14

  • Free Food Friday: Free breakfast, lunch and dinner for all veterans at the VRC.
  • RED ‘Remember Everyone Deployed’ Day: Student veterans are encouraged to wear RED shirt.
  • Collect clothing for ‘Suit Up for Vets’ – drop off location at the VRC.

The mission of the UT Tyler Veterans Resource Center is to provide a pipeline of information including resources, support and advocacy for student veterans and dependents to utilize in order to create successful leaders on campus, the community and Smith County.
