Dr. Clair Robertson has curated a current joint exhibition in conjunction with the Tyler Museum of Art. Robertson is a UT Tyler assistant professor of art history. She specializes in the art of the United States, while also teaching courses in modern and contemporary art and 19th-century French painting.

“Between the States: Photographs of the American Civil War from the George Eastman House Collection” commemorates the 150th anniversary of the war and highlights the photographic processes of the period. “The American Civil War’s Impact on Tyler” frames the war from the perspective of Smith County through photographs, maps and historical artifacts.

The public exhibition continues through Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015 at the museum, located at 1300 S. Mahon Ave. on the Tyler Junior College main campus.

Regular hours are 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 – 5 p.m. Sunday. The museum is closed on Mondays and most major holidays.

Housed within the College of Arts and Sciences, the UT Tyler Department of Art and Art History offers programs of study to prepare students for success as a professional artist, art educator or professional in the field of art.

The department’s curriculum and mode of operation resemble a professional art school, with a broad-based liberal arts education. Students may select an emphasis in studio art, art education or art history. UT Tyler also offers an art minor to complement other areas of study with expanded knowledge and ability in visual art.
