UT Tyler has partnered with a Tyler-based chemical engineering and consulting firm to explore the construction of a biomass gasification facility.

With the agreement established between UT Tyler and Arrington Corp., plans are to create a 'waste biomass to energy' production plant at the City of Tyler's landfill that will initially produce electrical energy, and ultimately, transportation fuel from waste biomass – such as forest, municipal solid and sewer sludge wastes.

With the joint endeavor, the university will provide hands-on, real world experience for UT Tyler students studying engineering, science and business.

The project also will benefit the area with jobs and economic opportunities for East Texans during the construction and operation of the intended facility.
