Ortega

UT Tyler graduate student Pam Ortega of Lufkin was recognized by the East Texas Crisis Center for outstanding volunteerism.

A 2016 HOPE Award recipient, Ortega currently volunteers at the center as an on-call advocate. She also serves as a center intern, providing counseling services in English and Spanish to both sexual assault and domestic violence survivors.

She will graduate with a master of arts in clinical mental health counseling this August.

The degree, housed within the Department of Psychology and Counseling, is intended to prepare students to counsel persons experiencing psychological disturbance due to developmental, educational, career, cognitive, emotional, behavioral, cultural, relational or environmental issues. Students who complete their degrees and meet state certification or licensing requirements may be employed in a variety of mental health settings.
