The UT Tyler Police Department will conduct a hostile intruder drill 9 a.m. – noon Wednesday, June 29 at the Robert R. Muntz Library, Randal Duke, emergency management coordinator, announced.

The library will be closed that day until the exercise has concluded. Officials expect the library will resume normal operations by 1 p.m.

UT Tyler will partner with the local FBI office, Tyler Police and EMS on this exercise, so there may be a substantial presence of law enforcement and emergency medical personnel and vehicles on the campus. Local media presence also will be expected.

Signage indicating a police training exercise in progress will be posted prominently around the perimeter of the library, and certain areas will be cordoned off, including much of the library parking lot.

"In the interest of safety of the campus community and of those involved in the exercise, no unauthorized persons will be allowed inside of the perimeter," said UT Tyler chief of police Mike Medders. "This exercise will provide valuable training to the officers, medical services personnel and the campus personnel participating, but our number one goal is to conduct the exercise with the utmost safety. We will continue to make notifications to the campus up until the time of the exercise."
