A UT Tyler faculty member is credited with the translation of China's first book on rhetoric.

Dr. Hui Wu, UT Tyler professor and chair of literature and languages, worked on "'Guiguzi,' China's First Treatise on Rhetoric: A Critical Translation and Commentary," which now has been published by Southern Illinois University Press.

The book highlights her translation and additional footnotes for the classic text.

"China's fundamental classic, Guiguzi, Master of the Ghost Valley, for ancient and present practices of communication remained largely unknown, even though Guiguzi was teaching rhetoric and speech at the same time as Aristotle did," Wu said. "I started working on this book project in 2007 and finished it in Summer 2015. It was long process because of required field work in China and the challenging original text."

The project was supported by a UT Tyler research fund in summer 2010, Wu added.
