Mechanical Engineering Students Shine at Lyceum Research Showcase

COE students and professor conducting researchThe UT Tyler Department of Mechanical Engineering has announced its winners in the 6th Annual Lyceum Research Showcase. This year’s virtual showcase hosted 235 student presenters, representing all six colleges in 132 research presentations. 

The annual spring event gives UT Tyler undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to present research conducted during the past academic year.

“We are very proud of our mechanical engineering students displaying almost 30 presentations this year,” said Dr. Nael Barakat, UT Tyler Department of Mechanical Engineering chair. “Thanks to all those who mentored and advised as well as those who participated. Please join me in congratulating our students and advisers for their achievements in the Lyceum.”

Oral Presentations

Undergraduate:

First place: Monu Jaiswal of Kathmandu, Nepal, "Design and Optimization of Acoustic Metamaterial for Focusing and Noise Reduction" with mentorship from Dr. Tahsin Khajah, UT Tyler assistant professor and graduate adviser.

Graduate:

2nd place: Alexandra Craig of Katy, "Electrospun Drug-Loaded PLA fibers for Wound Dressings" with mentorship from Dr. Shih-Feng Chou, UT Tyler assistant professor.

Poster Presentations

Second place: Mohammad Atmeh of Tyler, “Performance Analysis of Triboelectric Energy Harvester Designs for Knee Implants” with mentorship from Dr. Wathiq Ibrahim, UT Tyler assistant professor.

UT Tyler Houston Engineering Center ME students Sean Lowe of Houston, Omar Buentello of Richmond, Carlos Chic of Houston, Geovani Chico of Katy and Brittany Fink of Katy, Senior Design Team HEC 24: “Wind Tunnel & Vacuum Chamber System” with mentorship from Dr. Soren Maloney, HEC lecturer.
