Adding/Updating your Contribute Site Key
Updating a page using your Contribute connection

These instructions are still in working mode, and are still being edited. If you find an area that needs work, please email Robin Kelly with specifics.

If you are having problems with your connection (can't connect because of errors, won't take password, etc.), it may be necessary to remove your old connection and start over with a new connection key. Follow this link to instructions then, you will be prompted to reinstall your connection key. (Next Step on this page.)

Installing your Connection Key

Using the connection key that was sent to you in your email by Robin Kelly, double-click on the connection key specifically assigned to you. Enter your name, and the password , then click the "OK" button.

If you have NOT received a Connection Key, you will NOT be able to connect to Contribute. Contact rkelly@uttyler.edu for your Connection Key. Your username will probably already be in the first box. If not, it is the username you log into your computer with each morning. Your domain password will also always be the login ID you use to log into your computer each day. When your password changes, so will the password to Contribute. Do NOT select "Remember Password". This protects your Web pages from being edited by other people if they get onto your computer.
log in

You will see the synchronization of both the "Templates" and "Drafts"

You will then see the new site you created.

If Contribute takes you to the about:start page, this is ok, too. This is happening for most users. You can select the "The University of Texas at Tyler" link under "Begin editing my websites" or type in your address in the Address bar. From here, surf to your Web page by following the links through the UT Tyler Website. Once you are on your Website, you will be ready to begin editing your site.

start page

Select "Edit Page", and you will see the Web server pull down a copy of your page to your machine for you to work on.

edit this page

Here is what the page will look like in design-mode:

edit mode

Once you finalize your edits, you are ready to publish your page. (Above, we have changed the word "the" to a capital "The") All you do is select "Publish", and your page will upload to the server over the copy that is on the server. You are done editing your page!

Once the page is finished uploading, you will see a Congratulations message:

Congratulations

Then, Contribute will take you to the page you published live on the Website for you to see. Here, you can check your page, and also check any links, pics, etc. that you may have added and/or changed. If you need to make additional changes, select "edit" again, or continue by surfing to the next page on your site you wish to edit.

final page

Congratulations, you have just edited your first Web page!
