![]() The Katinas Return To UT Tyler Cowan CenterFebruary 19, 2001
The Katinas will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3 in the Vaughn Auditorium. The five brothers from American Samoa signed with Gotee Records in early
1997. Now with their self-titled full length debut, The Katinas are said
to be on the verge of changing the rules of what Christian music can be
and where it can be sold. Their music crosses ethnic and religious backgrounds. Since 1977 the young Katina boys have taken their name on the road performing at youth conventions, high schools and churches. In recent years The Katinas have performed with such artists as R. Kelly, CeCe Winans, Michael Bolton, Amy Grant, Wynnona and Jasmine Guy. They also toured the country with the 1998 E.R.A.C.E. (Eliminating Racism and Creating Equality) Tour where they shared the stage with dcTalk, Out of Eden, Jennifer Knapp and Temple Yard. The debut release is strongly rooted in mature musical roots, and their performances bring to mind such acts as Earth, Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, BeBe and CeCe Winans and the Ohio Players. Both in the style of their music and demand for their performance, The Katinas bring a multi-cultural, multi-generational and multi-denominational span to music lovers.
